Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age.
As soon as baby teeth come in, there is the potential for tooth decay. Baby teeth serve as the blueprint and pathway for permanent teeth. So even though they eventually fall out, preventing tooth decay in baby teeth is one way to avoid future problems in permanent teeth.
It is now well known that dental health plays a large role in our overall health. For this reason, it is very important that parents receive proper education about dental health for their children early and that children learn what it means to take care of their teeth. Don’t worry, we make the process fun!. We invite parents to be with the child during the entire appointment.
Should your child require treatment, it is best to refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as "needle", "shot", "pull", "drill" or "hurt". Our office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.
